A traditional Teochew favourite, our Yam Cake is a dense, savoury steamed cake that captures the authentic flavours of a heritage kitchen. Each slice is crafted from a rich batter of rice flour and water, generously filled with chunky pieces of aromatic taro (yam) that provide a natural, earthy sweetness and a satisfyingly creamy texture.
The complexity of the dish comes from a medley of traditional ingredients folded into the batter, including fragrant dried shrimp, savoury minced meat, and shallots. This creates a deep, umami profile that is further enhanced by a topping of crunchy fried shallots, fresh spring onions, and sliced red chillies for a vibrant finish.
