A simple yet versatile heritage treat, our Plain Kee Chang is a cherished vegetarian delight known for its distinct golden-yellow hue and unique, springy texture. Crafted from premium yellow glutinous rice, these dumplings undergo a traditional alkaline soaking process that gives the rice its characteristic translucency and a delightfully chewy, "mochi-like" consistency.
To ensure the highest standards of preparation and flavour purity, these dumplings are cooked in a dedicated, separate stainless steel container, completely isolated from our savoury meat-based dumplings. This meticulous process preserves the clean, natural profile of the alkaline rice, making it an ideal choice for vegetarians.
Because this version is made without any filling, it serves as a wonderful neutral canvas for a variety of flavours. While traditionally enjoyed with a dip of sweet coconut jam (kaya) or granulated sugar, these dumplings are equally delicious when paired with modern household breakfast spreads such as peanut butter, fruit jams, or Nutella.
